2025 Fantasy Baseball: Minor League Prospects
Nick Kurtz, OAK
The Athletics snagged Nick Kurtz fourth overall in the 2024 MLB June Amateur Draft after success for Wake Forest over three years (.333, 206 runs, 61 homers, 182 RBIs, 11 steals in 567 at-bats). His plate discipline stood out, drawing 189 walks against 130 strikeouts.
Post-draft, Oakland gave him 38 at-bats across A and AA ball, where he went 14-for-38 with 14 runs, four homers, 13 RBIs, and one steal, coaxing 12 walks and fanning 10 times.
After a decent spring (.261, 4 runs, 2 homers, 5 RBIs in 23 at-bats), they bumped him to AAA. His hot start there—10-for-21, six runs, three homers, nine RBIs—screams big-league ready. Fantasy owners hunting for a power jolt at first base should have Kurtz on speed dial when the A’s call him up.
Chase Meidroth, CWS
The White Sox’s big-league second-base and shortstop options are underwhelming, hinting that Meidroth won’t be in the minors long. Last year at AAA, he showcased an elite eye (18.1% walk rate, 12.7% strikeout rate), hitting .293 with 87 runs, seven homers, 57 RBIs, and 13 steals over 437 at-bats.
This season, he’s opened with six games in the minors, smashing two homers in 21 at-bats, adding seven runs, two RBIs, and two steals. He’s worth tracking, but he’ll need to claw his way up Chicago’s lineup to deliver fantasy juice in deep leagues.
Jordan Lawlar, ARI
After shining between AA and AAA in 2023 (.278, 95 runs, 20 homers, 67 RBIs, 36 steals in 417 at-bats), Lawlar lost most of 2024 to a torn ligament in his right thumb and a hamstring tweak, managing just 85 at-bats (.318, 13 runs, two homers, 20 RBIs, six steals).
His spring bat popped (.294, 6 runs, 1 homer, 4 RBIs, and 2 steals), with four walks and eight strikeouts, but Arizona had no starting job for him at the start of the season.
In his first seven AAA games this year, he’s 7-for-27 with six runs, five RBIs, and two steals. When Ketel Marte hits the IL, Lawlar should be the call-up. His power-speed combo gives him a solid fantasy floor once he heats up in the majors.
